As much as we enjoy producing, any chance we get to produce a feature film, we consider it a small miracle. It takes so many people, so many moving parts to bring a feature film to life. Miguel Ferrer Cole wrote this beautiful film called Shadow of the Sun, a love letter to his native Venezuela.
Set in Venezuela, when Alex, a deaf young man, asks his estranged brother Leo to join him in a talent contest that may change their lives, this salt of the Earth blue-collar worker must dust off his long, dormant musical chops to be his little brother’s voice, so the world can finally hear him.
This film was produced over 18 days, in 63 locations. You read that correctly. 63. We all lost some hair or grew gray hair during the process of production. But it was a beautiful testament to all the work, and all the people in the small town of Acarigua, Venezuela that came in and supported us during production. Through the unique characters in the film, we wanted to convey a message of hope, struggle and unity. To make each viewer identify with the challenges and triumphs of our protagonists and be inspired to pursue their own dreams, regardless of the adversities they may encounter along the way.
The film has gone on to screen in many film festivals worldwide and has won many awards along the way. The icing on the cake was when the film was selected by Venezuela as their official entry to the 2024 Oscars for Best International Feature Film.
Blessed to have had a hand in producing this film, and just fortunate to have met some wonderful humans who exemplify the heart and soul of the Venezuelan spirit.
